Have you ever heard of the penguins of Leng in one of Lovecraft's stories? They are supposed to be eyeless cave-dwelling offshoots of penguins that are six-feet tall with razor-sharp beaks. Perhaps you could derive a penguin variant off of them since eyeless birds look very menacing indeed.
Fairly interesting. Imagine what would have happened if the dinosaurs had never gone extinct and had evolved in their own rate. Obviously there would be no humans since mammals took advantage of the niche they left behind.
Wow, what a creatures! All different types, but yet so similar, thanks to penguin-base. I can't decide, which one is my favourited. Maybe raptor with his deadly wings? Or bear (i can imagine, how nice he walks and runns)?
Very interesting concepts. i like your style. It does kinda make you wonder what will happen to the fauna of Antarctica when it drifts to warmer latitudes, how will they adapt to the new situation. will they become extinct, or will they thrive and take on the newly opened niches made available... Which will take to the lad first, penguins, seals, or even the Skuas and other sea birds.... Hmmmmmmm sorry babbling.....
I really dig the polar bear one... to me it seems the most realistic. The raptor looks like it'd be in a sci-fi setting (like alien experiments kinda sci-fi) and the wolverine penguin makes me think that it'd work in a fantasy environment...
I'm sure there are many tutorials for such things floating around deviantart if you only do a quick search. But I can't point you to any particularly great ones, or a book so specific. The best teacher is nature, find some photos of the animal with the type of fur you'd like to draw and practice sketching the way the hair sits, clumps and reacts to wind.
These are so interesting. Such a strange combination that one would think wouldn't work, and yet here you are, making it work! I really like the forelimbs on each version, with how you incorporated the bird feet and flipper appearance. The Wolverine one is especially interesting, I have to say its my favorite of the trio.
